THE HOLY ROSARY

The Holy Rosary is an integral part of
Catholic devotional practices since before
the 13th century. It recalls the most
important events in the lives of Jesus and
Mary in the work of our salvation. These                                                                                                                                            events are called mysteries and are divided
Into four groups of decades. They are the
five Joyful, the five Luminous,” the five
Sorrowful and the five Glorious Mysteries.
Each of the five mysteries is preceded
by the recitation of the Apostles’ Creed, 3
Hail Marys, and concluded with the prayer
Hall, Holy Queen. The recitations of 1 Our
Father, 10 Hail Marys and 1 Glory be to
the Father help us to meditate deeply on
God’s love for us.
The Joyful Mysteries
(Prayed on Mondays and Saturdays)
1. The Annunciation
Let us contemplate in this mystery how
the Angel Gabriel saluted our Blessed
Lady with the title: “Full of Grace,” and
declared to her the Incarnation of our Lord
and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
II. The Visitation
Let us contemplate in this mystery how

IV. The Presentation of Jesus
Let us contemplate in this mystery how

purification, presented the child Jesus in
the temple, where holy Simeon, giving
thanks to God with great joy, received him
into his arms, and with the prophetess
Anna, proclaimed him Saviour of the
world.
V. Jesus in the Temple
Let us contemplate in this mystery how
the Blessed Virgin Mary and Joseph,                                                                                                                                                    having lost the child Jesus in Jerusalem,
sought him for three days, and at length,
to their great joy found him in the temple
sitting in the midst of the doctors, hearing
them and asking them questions.
